Build Your Marketing and Influence Mental PowersOne of the core assumptions of Strategic Thought Leadership Is that there is Inner strategic thought leadership that has to happen before Outer strategic thought leadership can be fully effective.
Being strategic about thought leadership is more than demonstrating authority or expertise - it is about literally leading the thinking of an audience to a new place. It is about positive influence.
If you're going to build a path from an old way of thinking to a new, better way of thinking - whether that's helping customers get more value out of a product or service, better appreciate the distinctive advantages of your offering, or embrace a philosophy that adds more value - you want to build it out fully in your imagination first, so that it has power and clarity.
It should include propulsion from the old assumption to the new assumption with talking points that make the old assumption less comfortable, and the new assumption, more magnetic, attractive, compelling and inspirational.
Extending the Memory Palace TechniqueThe Memory Palace is a mnemonic technique of organizing information spatially as if it is in different sections of a palace. It has been proven over centuries to be effective for rapid and complete memorization.
It's a good place to start, but we are going to extend this technique with a new metaphor and purpose. Here's a video I found that might be a good intro to the method. Keep in mind we build on this substantially in the podcast:
Design Human EngineeringDesign Human Engineering, or DHE, is a method developed by Richard Bandler, one of the co-developers of NLP, that extends NLP by, in his words "taking what happens in hypnosis and making it every day." It involves creating an inner "control panel" using the imagination to access powerful states of mind and focus them on specific achievements, for instance.
Shaping AssumptionsAny system ... any business, organization, field, profession or concept has a set of fundamental assumptions at its core that can be either explicit or implied. They may or may not even be consciously well understood within the organization itself.
A well aligned organization - whether it's a media show, business, solo-preneurship, professional office, or personal brand - knows and utilizes its assumptions. One key part of strategic thought leadership is designing assumptions to be powerful and robust ... as well as contrasting them with the assumptions of an audience to positively influence.
You add value to your audience with your marketing, leadership or persuasion when you have an assumption that's core to your system that you want to lead them to in order to enrich their lives. Their current model isn't as robust and powerful. It doesn't make them as resourceful as yours could. So you build a bridge between the two to lead them along.
If You Built a Theme Park in Your Imagination to Empower Your Thought Leadership, What Would You Put There? How would you design your theme park? Here are some ideas.
- Imagine 2 buildings. Make them vivid and theatrical, like you would find at an Orlando theme park. The left building is your audience's current thinking and the right building is your Thought Leadership Position. Decorate them appropriately and make it appealing to move from the left building to the right one. Using the Memory Castle technique, utilize the talking points of your thought leadership in the construction of a path between the two. You might even want to make a bridge between upper levels to represent higher level influence, like impacting an audience's belief systems positively or connecting with their higher values.
- What if you could have a "Hall of Wisdom" attraction with a round table meeting space for anyone- past, present, or fictional - you would like as an advisor? Of course, they'd be visiting as 3D hologram projections. This becomes your internal board of advisors. Feel free to consult with them regularly. What would they advise you to do?
- Design a 3D virtual reality theater attraction where you can program the experience of achieving any result you like and step into it as a full, multi-sensory experience.
